1. Europe's high-speed trains: Less strain and at times faster than planes
High-speed trains are often the fastest way to travel between cities in Europe, beating short-haul flights for journeys of up to 550 kilometers. Trains also score well on that shifting equation of comfort, convenience and cost.

2. Shanghai Palace
Shanghai Palace advertises Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese food. Right away, this gives me pause. Why do they serve all three? Why can't they just pick one? I like simplicity and order, and I find this "tri-specialty" cuisine puzzling. Two bites into dinner, however, the skeptic in me feels quite silly. All that ranting was for nothing. Shanghai Palace serves Chinese food favorites like kung pao chicken ($8.50) and moo shu pork ($8.95 while deftly offering Thai chicken panang ($8.50) and Vietnamese pho soup ($6.50) for the more adventurous diner.

5. The Frequent Traveler Q & A: Broken promises and changing rules

My daughter flew Air Canada from Tel Aviv to Ottawa, changing planes in Toronto. As there was a four-hour delay, she was told that she would be put up overnight at a hotel in Toronto at Air Canada's expense. Arriving in Toronto at 11:30 p.m., Air Canada denied knowledge of any arrangements made in Israel, and they would not pay for a thing. Furthermore, in reweighing, her baggage (just fine in Israel) was suddenly "overweight," and she had to pay excess baggage charges. I have written and called Air Canada many times, with no response. Can you please help? Tzvi Snitz, Hedarah, Israel
