Gatherings bring a bounty of food, friends
This will be my first column of 2008. It is hard to believe that 2007 is now history. We wish everyone a blessed Christmas and a prosperous New Year. My husband, Joe, turned 39 this week.

Children learning to swim

Life is back in full swing again this week after my husband, Joe, went back to work from vacation. Also our five oldest children are leaving every day for 2½ to 3 hours of swimming lessons. Elizabeth is catching on fast and can swim short distances. I know that even a good swimmer can drown, but I feel safer knowing they could swim. I never learned to swim and that makes me scared of deep water. Sometimes Joe takes the children fishing in his boat. Even though they wear life jackets I'll be more relaxed knowing they can swim.

When we returned after being away on vacation for several weeks, some good friends suggested we all catch up by having a pizza supper together. The hosts offered to pick up several varieties of pies from a local pizzeria (one that specializes in inventive creations) and to make a couple of sorbets for dessert.
